IVF is one of the most effective forms of assisted reproductive technology that helps in problems related to infertility. IVF procedure involves collection of mature eggs from the ovaries and fertilized by sperm in the labs, further the fertilized egg is transferred to the uterus. One complete cycle of IVF takes about 3 or more weeks to attain successful results (pregnancy). In some couples it may take more than one cycle depending on various factors.
IUI, or Intrauterine insemination, is a type of artificial insemination that treats infertility. IUI involves washed and concentrated sperm that is directly placed in the uterus, close to the time when the ovaries release one or more eggs for fertilization. The expected result of IUI is for the sperm to travel into the fallopian tube and fertilize a waiting egg, delivering the outcome of a successful pregnancy.
ICSI stands for Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection, which is an additional treatment to IVF which is used primarily for the treatment of severe cases of male-factor infertility like low sperm count, low sperm morphology, or motility, anti-sperm antibodies & more. ICSI is a process wherein a single sperm is injected into each egg to assist fertilization by the use of very fine micro-manipulation equipment.
One of the significant factors of ensuring pregnancy is that the embryo hatches & implants & that is where Assisted Laser Hatching plays a crucial role. This technique makes it easy for the embryo to break through its outer layer or shell (a membrane also known as the zona pellucida) by creating an opening. It’s a microscopic procedure that is usually done 3 days after fertilization and has occurred during an IVF or ICSI treatment cycle.
Egg donor IVF is a fertility treatment option recommended to those who for whatever reasons cannot use their own eggs. In traditional IVF women consume fertility drugs to produce eggs in her ovaries. Donor egg IVF works when the woman’s ovaries are incapable of producing eggs. This process is also ideal in cases where the female partner’s age is over 40, unexplained repeated IVF failures, genetic diseases in a female partner and more.
Egg freezing, also known as mature oocyte cryopreservation, is a process of saving a woman’s ability to get pregnant in the future. This method includes the harvest of your eggs from the ovaries and is frozen unfertilized and stored for later use. A frozen egg can be thawed, combined with sperm, and can be implanted in your uterus via in vitro fertilization at the time you prefer.
Embryo freezing is a process that allows one to store embryos for later use. One decides to store an embryo if they want to become pregnant in the future sometime, for medical research, to donate, or even for training purposes. The process includes the use of hormones and medicines that stimulate the production of potentially fertile eggs, the eggs are then extracted from the ovaries for fertilization or freezing.
Donor IUI or Donor insemination is typically an intrauterine insemination (IUI) done using donor sperm. The requirement of performing donor IUI depends upon the number of moving sperms, if the number is too low or no sperm at all, donor IUI is recommended. Donor IUI is also a viable option for couples of same sex, for single women, for men suffering with cancer or any kinds of genetic defects. The ideal age for sperm donors is less than 40 years of age.
